‘I fought many battles, but begs for forgiveness – Umahi tells Elechi, Egwu, Anyim

The Minister of works, David Umahi on Wednesday revealed how he fought many battles during his reign as the governor of Ebonyi State.

The former governor, Umahi however begged the prominent stakeholders of the state, especially the former governors; Martin Elechi, Sam Egwu and the former secretary to the government of the federation, SGF, Senator Pius Anyim Pius.

The Minister, Umahi made this known while addressing Ebonyians during the 83rd birthday celebration of the former governor, Martin Elechi, that was organized by the state government led by governor, Francis Nwifuru, and held at the ecumenical centre, Abakaliki capital of Ebonyi state.

He however, commended the governor, Francis Nwifuru for organizing the birthday party celebration for the former governor, Martin Elechi, so also, for his doggedness to unite the stakeholders of the state.

According to him: “I said to my self, maybe I have fought many battles, and God did not want me to build this temple. I want to thank the son of David (Nwifuru) for his peaceful disposition in the governance of Ebonyi State.

“Go and check, David fought many battles. I want to confess and confirm that this son of David (Nwifuru) is a divine gift to Ebonyi state. And this means that my battles are right. And I deserve forgiveness from everyone.

“So, let it be known that all the challenges I confronted as a governor of the state, were challenges for the progress and peace of this state. And I want to assure Ebonyians and the entire Nigeria that what David could not do, the son of David (Nwifuru) is now doing it.

The Minister of works, Umahi emphasized that he has every reason to celebrate the former governor, Martin Elechi on his 83rd birthday, acknowledging the great role played by Elechi to bring him into political power years back.

“I have every reason to celebrate Chief Martin Elechi. Honestly, I was his student and still his student. I confess that I learnt administration under him.
