Ebonyi: Senate deputy Whip vows to tackle illiteracy, distributes materials to 6,000 pupils

The Senate Deputy Chief Whip, Senator Onyekachi Nwebonyi has flagged off the distribution of educational materials, including school desks and writing supplies, to boost the standard of education in Ebonyi North senatorial zone.
The event, held at Ohaukwu Local Government Headquarters, featured the presentation of some of the procured 2,000 units of 3-in-1 desks, expected to provide seating for about 6,000 pupils in both primary and secondary schools.

The Nations News reports that the materials distributed includes; exercise books, English and Mathematics textbooks, and other writing materials.
Nwebonyi who spoke to newsmen during the distribution, said the initiative was aimed at tackling illiteracy and improving learning conditions in Ebonyi North.
“The development of every society is dependent on the quality of education given to our children, because today’s children are tomorrow’s leaders. This is why I have procured these desks and materials to support learning in our schools,” he said.
The lawmaker, who highlighted some of his achievements since assuming office, listed the construction of over 16 kilometres of concrete roads across the four local government areas in the zone, distribution of vehicles, motorcycles, agricultural processing machines, and scholarships to more than 300 students.
He further disclosed plans to commence work on the 12-kilometre Ogudu–Odumoke road in Ohaukwu Local Government, noting that the first two kilometres had already been awarded to contractors.
“We are determined to set a record that will be difficult, if not impossible, to beat. As we move into the 2025 budget year, more of such interventions will come,” he assured.
The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ebonyi State, Chief Stanley Okoro Emegha, commended the senator for his performance, urging the people to continue supporting the ruling party.
Nwebonyi expressed appreciation to his constituents for the mandate given to him, pledging not to take their trust for granted.
“I will continue to do extraordinary things to the glory of God and for the betterment of my people, the people of Ebonyi North,” he said before inviting Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru to join in the symbolic tape-cutting.
