NECO Releases 2026 BECE Results, Schedules Re-sit Examination for July

The National Examinations Council (NECO) has released the results of the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), with a total of 186,291 candidates participating in the nationwide assessment.

NECO disclosed this in a statement issued on Thursday in Minna by its Acting Director of Information and Public Relations, Mr. Azeez Sani.

According to the Council, the candidates registered for examinations in 12 subjects and were drawn from the 36 states of the federation, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), as well as five foreign countries.

The examination commenced on April 20 and was successfully concluded on April 30, 2026.

NECO stated that the results were approved and released following the successful conclusion of the 2026 BECE Award Committee Meeting held at the Council’s headquarters in Minna, Niger State.

Speaking during the meeting, the Chairperson of the Award Committee, (Mrs.) Folake Olatunji David, Director of Basic Education at the Federal Ministry of Education, who represented the Minister of Education, Maruf Tunji Alausa,

He expressed satisfaction with the processes that culminated in the successful release of the results.

The meeting was attended by secondary school principals from across the country alongside members of NECO management.

Meanwhile, the Award Committee has approved July 22 and 23, 2026, for the conduct of the BECE Re-sit Examination in Mathematics and English Studies.

NECO explained that the re-sit examination is specifically designed for candidates with conditional deficiencies in Mathematics, English Studies, or both.

The Council noted that the exercise would provide affected candidates with an opportunity to remedy the deficiencies and obtain the certification required for admission and placement into Senior Secondary School One (SSS1) without having to repeat an academic year.
