Court orders release of Ohanaeze Youth’s vehicle after alleged abduction

Federal High Court sitting in Abakaliki capital of Ebonyi State has granted a motion for the release of vehicle belonging to the National President of Ohanaeze Youth Council (OYC), Comrade Igboayaka O. Igboayaka.

The Nations News reports that Comrade Igboayaka on 8th February 2025 was arrested by the Nigeria Police, Ebonyi State Headquarters, in Owerri, after his re-election.

Investigation revealed that Igboayaka was arrested shortly after the press statement he issued on January 29, 2025, advising Ebonyi State Governor Francis Nwifuru to implement effective measures to prevent the ongoing attacks on Ebonyians by bandits/Fulani herdsmen in some communities in Ebonyi State.

It was equally learnt that the Nigeria police impounded and seized Igboayaka’s vehicle and other belongings since February. 

According to the victim, “while i was in the custody of the Nigeria police at the Anti-Kidnapping Department, i was beaten and tortured until i collapsed twice”.

He added that, it led to him being rushed to the police clinic for emergency treatment, and subsequently taken to a magistrate court for arraignment and was incarcerated at Abakiliki prison for 40 days.

According to him “Pursuant to the ongoing hearing of the matter, a federal High Court in Abakiliki ordered the release of the vehicle on 18th November 2025, with service to the Commissioner of Police on 21st November and subsequent released on 25th November 2025” he stated.

In a related development, the Ohanaeze Youth Council, led by Comrade Igboayaka O Igboayaka, “I remains resolute on matters concerning Ndigbo, and his leadership will continue to unwaveringly advocate for the political and economic survival of Ndigbo in this complex entity called Nigeria.

“We exhort all Igbo youths to embrace the unity vision of Ohanaeze Youth Council OYC, aimed at uniting Ndigbo across the 13 states of Igbo extraction, encompassing Imo, Abia, Enugu, Ebonyi, Anambra, Delta, Rivers, Cross River, Akwaibom, Beyelsa, Edo, Kogi, and Benue State” he stated.
