A court has struck out a suit challenging the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidacy of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, bringing an end—for now—to the legal action against his emergence within the party.

The suit, reportedly filed by former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi, was dismissed after the court ruled that it could not proceed.

The decision effectively terminates the case but does not constitute a final judicial pronouncement on Atiku’s eligibility beyond the issues raised in the suit.

The ruling comes as the ADC continues to navigate internal political realignments and legal disputes ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The Nations News reports that the several cases involving the party’s leadership and internal affairs are reportedly still pending before different courts.

Political analysts say the decision could shape the opposition’s preparations for the next election cycle.

However, they note that further legal action remains possible if any interested party chooses to appeal the ruling or institute a fresh suit where permitted by law.

As of the time of filing this report, neither Atiku Abubakar nor Rotimi Amaechi had issued an official public statement in response to the court’s decision.

The latest ruling adds another chapter to the evolving legal and political developments within the ADC as stakeholders position themselves for the 2027 elections.
