UNICROSS suspends 2 students for allegedly shooting institution’s staff

The University of Cross River State (UNICROSS), has suspended two students for allegedly shooting the university staff of mechanical engineering department Mr. Eyong Inah.
The suspended students are; one Charles Mbinghi -Ogar, of the Department of Urban and Regional Planning and Emmanuel Ogochukwu Obi, of Physics Department.
The students allegedly opened fire on the staff, during an altercation and the projectile (pellet) discharged from the shot ricocheted and struck a postgraduate student who was passing by, and landed the postgraduate at the hospital.
A source told our Correspondent on Sunday in Calabar that management of the institution has suspended the two students after investigations.
The source stated that the duo shot the staff in company of their friends who subsequently fled the scene upon sensing that trouble might brew up.

The source averred that action of the students involved in the shooting did not only endangered lives but also caused panic, commotion, disrupted the first semester examinations scheduled for that day and indeed also disrupted academic activities.
In a circular No. 472, with Ref. No. UNICROSS/Reg/GC/VoL.1/32/427, dated April 5, 2025, signed by the registrar, Victor Ephraim, the institution ordered the two students not to enter the campus or take part in any of the institution ‘s social activities for breach of school security pending outcome of investigation from police.
The circular stressed that until the indefinite suspension is lifted before the suspended students will be allowed to enter the campus adding that both students would have no business in the campus.
Clauses from the circular stressed,” In the course of that confrontation, Mr. Charles allegedly shot at Mr. Eyong and the projectile (pellet) from the shot ricocheted and struck a Postgraduate Student who was passing by, leading to his immediate hospitalization
“Their case has been formally referred to the Nigeria Police Force for further investigation and prosecution where necessary.
“The University shall await the outcome of the police investigation, upon which further internal disciplinary action will be taken.
“This conduct constitutes a gross violation of the University’s rules and regulations as outlined in the Students’ Handbook and the Code of Conduct, including but not limited to”.
