…. Demands For One Week To Prepare For Relocation

At last, Fulani herdsmen occupying and grazing on agricultural lands in Agatu local government area of Benue State, have willingly agreed to depart the lands  to enable farmers make use of their farm lands as cropping season commence in earnest.

The Ardo of Fulani herders in Zone C, Muhammed  Risku therefore demanded for a one-week grace to allow the herders in Agatu land  prepare for their relocation.

The executive chairman of Agatu Local Government Council, Mr. James Melvin Ejeh, disclosed this to our correspondent on phone in Makurdi, Sunday.

The chairman who acknowledged the current relative peace being  enjoyed in the area, however reiterated that maintaining uninterrupted farming activities is of utmost importance, describing the decision of the herders as a welcomed development.

Ejeh noted that agriculture remain crucial to the local economy, stressing that there is every need for farmers to have unhindered access to their lands

According to him, the Fulani herders conveyed their decision to depart Agatu land to the council during a security stakeholders meeting held on Saturday, April 26, 2025, at Obagaji, headquarters of Agatu local government area.

He stated that  the council has agreed  and had graciously approved  the one week for the herders to enable them prepare and leave the agricultural land for the purpose of farming, 

He added that the Agatu General Youth Chairman, Oloche Silas , has committed on behalf of the Agatu youth to support the peaceful evacuation process and to avoid any acts of violence.

“Our farmers must cultivate without disruption. We will do everything necessary to create a safe environment for them,”he said.

He said the stakeholders meeting was attended by all the relevant stale including security agents, traditional leaders, representatives from the Fulani community, youth leaders, and  others.
