2027: Ebonyi APC, stakeholders reject direct primaries, insist on consensus candidacy

The critical stakeholders and leadership of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, Ebonyi State chapter have rejected direct primaries and queued behind governor Francis Nwifuru to adopt consensus candidacy ahead of the forthcoming 2027 general election.

The Nations News reports that the adoption of consensus candidacy by the party leadership followed the resolution reached by stakeholders of the state that hails from the three senatorial zones of the state.

The Governor, Francis Nwifuru convened an enlarged meeting comprising former Governors ; former Deputy Governors; former and serving members of the National Assembly, former and serving Principal officers of the State House of Assembly, former Ministers and Ambassadors that took place at his office at the new government House, centenary City Abakaliki.

The former senate president, Anyim Pius Anyim who spoke to newsmen shortly after the event, said the ruling All Progressives Congress APC in Ebonyi state adopted consensus candidacy for the sake of peace and consolidation.

He further explained that the party will soon make known the names of those to fly the Party’s tickets, ranging from the governorship, national and state Assemblies among other positions. 

“As stakeholders  of the party, we convened a meeting with our stakeholders who are members of our party.

“Following the earlier meeting of Tuesday April 28, 2026. 

“Today’s meeting has been very productive as every stakeholder agreed this is the best way to run a party.

“No constituency will be contested as all issues regarding consensus had been adopted”. He said.

The stakeholders, however applauded the governor’s capacity and leadership style, which according to them, has made the state to remain in peace and more united.

Meanwhile, it was gathered that the Minister of works, David Umahi was missing at the stakeholders meeting.
