Education is impact driven beyond certificates – NSE Fellow

A fellow of Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) Joan Nweke has disclosed that education is impact driven that goes beyond certification in the society. 

She made the disclosure during a media interview with journalists shortly after the 56th convocation of the University of Lagos. 

Nweke who was among the graduates has successfully completed a Master’s programme at the institution described the feat as a celebration of growth, leadership and New beginning.

For Nweke, the convocation marked not just the completion of an academic programme, but the culmination of an intense and rewarding journey of learning and personal development.

Describing the experience, Nweke said, “The programme challenged me to think differently, lead more intentionally, and approach complex situations with clarity and confidence. It was a truly transformative experience.” 

“The course placed strong emphasis on leading projects, managing people, and applying knowledge to real-life situations, equipping graduates with practical leadership skills relevant across industries.

She emphasized that the academic journey also played a significant role in expanding knowledge, sharpening analytical abilities, and strengthening decision-making capacity. 

“Through collaborative projects and leadership-focused learning, graduates were encouraged to think strategically, work effectively with others, and adapt to dynamic professional environments.

Reflecting on the milestone moment, Nweke posited “This convocation represents growth for me—intellectually, professionally, and personally. It has reinforced my belief in continuous learning and the responsibility that comes with leadership.”

According to her, as graduates celebrated alongside family, friends, and faculty members, the occasion stood as a powerful reminder that education is not only about earning a qualification, but about gaining the knowledge, perspective, and confidence to lead, serve, and create impact.

The 56th Convocation Ceremony once again highlighted the University of Lagos’ reputation as a leading institution committed to developing forward-thinking professionals and leaders prepared to make meaningful contributions to society.
