N’l Sports Festival: C’River arrives Abekuta with 50 athletes, Competes in 16 sports

As the 22nd National sports festival begins in Abekuta the Ogun State capital from 16th to 30th of may, 2025. The Director of administration, Cross River State ministry of sports development, Mr Ita Moses Agbor told journalists in Calabar weekend shortly after the team depart the state Capital
Making the disclosure, Agbor stated that the team Cross River comprising of 50 athletes and 32 officials will compete in 16 sports in Abekuta and was optimistic that the 50 member athletes were capable of delivering and make the state proud after the fiesta
He also disclosed that the state athletes would compete in cycling, Boxing, Carate, shooting, wrestling, tia quando, weathlifting, powerlifting, swimming and Athletics.
According to him, ” we are going not only to compete but to bring back laurels and make the state proud”.
Mr Agbor who was full of appreciation to Governor Bassey Otu for making funds available for early preparation and making sure that the athletes lacks nothing during the competition in Abekuta
” I thank the State Governor, Prince Bassey Edet Otu who have made funds available for the games and on time, since he assumed office, we have not had financial challenges like before, monies applied are approved” he stated.
” We are going to surpass the last National sports festival in Delta state because the standard of preparation this time is far better than before because of the encouragement from the Governor through the disbursement of funds on time for adequate preparation”.
He also disclosed that foreign based athletes would join the team in Abekuta to compete for the state
The team captain, Tom Melody Bassey four times National champion in Carthalon and pole volt was also optimistic that team cross river will make the state proud.
Bassey is a two time captain of team Cross River who led the team to Delta state and now Ogun State for the National sports festival.
