The chairman of the foundation, Iliya Yame Kwache who made this known to newsmen shortly after the tree planting in Yola, said it is high time for all hands to be on desks to mitigate climate change or else the future generations will not forgive us.
Kwache said human beings must have a change of heart while plants and trees can live forever without human beings and other animals unfortunately can not survive without trees .
” Human beings have now set the planet on fire and are burning catastrophically out of control but we can quench this fire if we pick up the will.” He said,
This is the 4 in the series of the annual mass tree planting with a total number of over 60,000 seedlings of different spices of trees where Michika got Michika 50,000, Adamawa state university Mubi got 5,000, while the Lutheran Church university permanent site in Demsa got 2000 and Mayo Belwa 10,000 each respectively .
While flagging up the tree planting in michika the senator representing Adamawa southern senatorial district Sen Binos Yaro said the foundation is worth emulating because this is the only way to save the environment.
Sen Binos in his speech emphasized the urgent need to address climate change, which he described as a man-made disaster threatening the survival of many regions globally.
He called on Nigerians and government officials to adopt proactive measures to mitigate environmental degradation for the benefit of communities and humanity at large.
Meanwhile at the flagging off the tree planting at the permanent site of the Lutheran university in Demsa Rev Musa Panti Filibus said trees are not merely part of our environment, there are essential to life itself, ‘As we plant and care for threes, we actively participate in God’s ongoing work of sustaining creation” said the spiritual leader.
The senator advocated for a proactive measure to be taken to redress the deteriorating environmental issues in the interest of the community and mankind .
Senator Binos who was represented by Yusuf Williams however called on the government to support the laudable initiative of IY kwache foundation to take this annual tree planting campaign across the state.
“We can win the war against climate change, most especially desertification and erosion through regular tree planting, Israel and the United Arab Emirates have proven that man has the capacity to turn the desert into a lush green environment ” said Binos .
The foundation emphasized on the need to tackle the effect of climate change by planting trees, which according to them is the best weapon that absorbs carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and converts it into oxygen.
