The former Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Solomon Selcap Dalung has lamented the 2-1 defeat of Nigeria’s Super Eagle by its Benin Republic counterpart in the world cup qualifiers.
The Ex-minister who made this known in his page, described the defeat as a heartbreaking one.
He noted: “this evening, I found myself reflecting on the current state of our beloved Super Eagles and the Nigerian Football Federation, and to say the least, it’s nothing short of heartbreaking”.
“To even imagine that during my tenure as Minister of Youth and Sports, we qualified for the World Cup with matches to spare, which is a total contrast to what is being experienced today”, the Ex-minister brags.
Solomon Dalung who further described the defeat of the Nigerian Super Eagle in Monday’s match against Benin, which ended in a 2-1 defeat, said, “is a shocker of how far we have fallen”.
“The Super Eagles now sit with just 3 points from 4 matches in the African World Cup Qualifiers, a record that is simply unacceptable for a nation with our footballing heritage”, he said.
The Ex-minister also added: “To be honest, I can’t help but lament the pitiable state of affairs within the Nigerian Football Federation. Our players seem to be struggling with no good outcome in sight. It is heart-wrenching to see the pride of our nation falter time and again”.
He maintained that Nigerians deserve better, saying that the talents of the Nigerian young ones deserve better results.
“Our nation deserves a football federation that can rekindle the fire and passion that once made the Super Eagles soar above all. Let us come together to support our team through these tough times, but we must demand accountability, strategic planning, and a renewed focus on nurturing our homegrown talents to restore our rightful place in African and world football”, he said.
According to Honourable Dalung, Nigeria’s football future is bright, but only if the right steps are taken today.
“That’s my little piece of advice because for our players to be kept for another 4 years making 8 years at home would not be good for Nigeria”, he declared.
