The political atmosphere in Adamawa State is beginning to gather momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections, as Ahmad Salihijo Ahmad formally declared his intention to contest for the House of Representatives seat representing Yola North, South and Girei Federal Constituency.
Ahmad made the announcement during a well-attended gathering in Makama B Ward, Yola South Local Government Area, drawing supporters, party stakeholders, and community members, and setting the tone for what is expected to be a closely watched contest.

Positioning himself as a candidate driven by service and results, Ahmad anchored his ambition on his track record in public service, particularly his tenure as Managing Director of the Rural Electrification Agency.
He noted that his time in office was marked by the delivery of impactful electrification projects across underserved communities, including several within the constituency he now seeks to represent.
He explained that his exposure at the federal level has equipped him with the insight and experience required to effectively navigate legislative responsibilities and attract meaningful development to his constituency.
“This is not merely about seeking political office,” Ahmad told the gathering. “It is about building a constituency where every voice matters, where opportunities are accessible, and where development is not selective but reaches every community.
Framing his aspiration as a mission rooted in service rather than politics, the engineer-turned-politician emphasized the need for transparency, accountability, and sustained engagement between elected representatives and the people.
He pledged to maintain open lines of communication and ensure that constituents are actively involved in governance.
“My people deserve a leader who listens, understands their needs, and takes action. I am prepared to bridge the gap between government and the grassroots,” he added.
Reflecting on his personal journey, Ahmad described himself as a lifelong public servant who rose through the ranks from a junior officer to the helm of a major federal agency.
He said the experience has shaped his leadership style and prepared him to approach governance challenges with practical, solution-driven strategies.
He outlined key priority areas of his campaign to include infrastructure development, improved power supply, rural electrification, and access to clean water—critical sectors he said directly impact livelihoods and economic growth across the constituency.
Ahmad also called on voters to look beyond political rhetoric and assess aspirants based on competence, credibility, and verifiable records of service.
He expressed confidence that his professional achievements and public service record distinguish him as a capable candidate.
As part of his declaration activities, Ahmad visited All Progressives Congress (APC) offices across Yola South, Yola North, and Girei Local Government Areas, where he reaffirmed his loyalty to the party and engaged with local leaders and stakeholders.
Party officials and community figures, including Ahmed Aliyu Dikko, Musa Yero, and Aishatu Aliyu Namtari, described him as a dedicated son of Adamawa who has consistently used his positions to benefit communities within and beyond the state. They pledged their support and expressed optimism about his candidacy.

Observers note that Ahmad’s entry into the race comes at a time when residents of the constituency are increasingly demanding effective representation, youth empowerment, infrastructure renewal, and expanded economic opportunities.
With his formal declaration, the contest for the Yola federal constituency seat is gradually taking shape, and Ahmad’s candidacy is already being seen by supporters as a potential catalyst for responsive governance and sustainable development in the area.
