Governorship aspirant, Abdurrahman Bashir Haske has formally declared his intention to contest for governorship in the forthcoming 2027 general election under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The Nations News reports that from the early hours of the day, major streets of Yola witnessed an unusual surge in human and vehicular activity, as thousands of supporters—comprising youths, women, and members of civil society organisations—trooped out in solidarity with the aspirant.

It was gathered that strategic locations across the metropolis, including the ever-busy Police Roundabout, were transformed into rally grounds, creating an atmosphere reminiscent of a statewide festival.

The event quickly took on a carnival-like character. Clad in customised attire emblazoned with Haske’s image and campaign insignia, supporters sang, danced, and waved banners bearing messages of hope and generational change.

The air was thick with excitement as music blared from loudspeakers, energising the crowd and reinforcing the sense of a movement gathering momentum.

Many of the supporters, particularly young people, described Haske’s ambition as a “paradigm shift” in Adamawa’s political landscape.

They expressed confidence that his candidacy represents a new era of leadership anchored on innovation, integrity, and inclusiveness.

Placards with inscriptions calling for youth participation in governance dotted the rally, underscoring a growing demand for fresh perspectives in the state’s leadership.

Commercial activities were not left untouched by the unfolding spectacle. Several businesses temporarily shut down as traders abandoned their stalls to join the procession, while the influx of supporters caused heavy traffic congestion across key routes in the city, with gridlocks lasting several hours.

Addressing the jubilant crowd, Haske said his decision to join the governorship race was driven by persistent calls from the people who believe in his vision and leadership capacity.

He expressed strong optimism about clinching the APC ticket, citing what he described as overwhelming grassroots support and goodwill across the state.

“I am encouraged by the trust and confidence the people of Adamawa have reposed in me,” he said. “With this level of support, I am confident of emerging victorious, not just in the primaries but in the general election.”

Despite his confidence, Haske struck a conciliatory tone, emphasising his commitment to democratic principles. He assured party faithful that he would support whoever emerges as the APC candidate, provided the process is free, fair, and transparent.

According to him, elections remain “a game of numbers,” where the candidate with the broadest support base prevails.

However, he was quick to stress that his ambition is not driven by desperation.

“For me, this is not a do-or-die affair. Leadership ultimately comes from God,” he stated, drawing applause from the crowd.

As the dust settles on the high-profile declaration, political observers say Haske’s entry into the race has added a new dynamic to Adamawa’s evolving political contest, particularly among the youth constituency eager for representation and change.
