The Independent National Electoral Commission INEC has given reasons why it declared governor Charles Soludo winner of the Anambra State governorship election that took place at the twenty one LGAs of the state.

Soludo, according to the returning officer, Edoba Omoregie, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Benin (UNIBEN), Edo State, said the incumbent governor Charles Soludo scored the highest votes and therefore returned elected for second tenure.

The result was announced early this morning, Sunday, by the Returning Officer.

While declaring the results noted that Prof Soludo polled a total of 422,664 votes to be re-elected for second term, while the All Progressives Congress, APC, Nicholas Ukachukwu  came second with 99,445 of total votes cast.

“The election was contested and a winner emerged, the candidate with the highest number of votes cast, and percentage have all been computed.

“I, therefore, declare that Soludo Charles Chukwuma, of the APGA, having satisfied the requirements of the law, has scored the highest number of votes in this election, is hereby, declared the winner, and return elected,” Omoregie summarized.

The Labour Party candidate, George Moghalu said he would come up with formal reaction later today.

The ADC candidate, Chuma Nwosu also postponed his reaction to later today.

But his aide, Ben Chuks Nwosu decried what happened in the election as nauseating.

According to him it was akin to an open stock market of cash buying and selling of votes at the polling areas all over the state.

Dozie Nwankwo, a chieftain of APGA and two-time House of Reps member who ran for Anambra Central senatorial election for APGA in the last general election said the Governorship poll result wasn’t surprising to anyone.

According to him, “Any keen and sincere follower of trends in Anambra State knows that Gov Soludo would have no real challenge. He did so well that everyone wants the solution to continue for the next four years,” he stated.
