NYSC swears in 2,095 corps members in Enugu

The National Youths Service Corps (NYSC), on Friday swore in 2, 095 corps members of the 2024 Batch ‘C’ Stream 2 set, deployed to Enugu for the one-year mandatory national service.

The  Coordinator, Mrs Oluwakemi Awolola gave the number during the ceremony at the NYSC Orientation Camp, Awgu Local Government Area, Enugu.

Awolola said that the corps members comprised 829 males and 1,266 females.

Congratulating the corps members, she urged them to participate in all the activities in the orientation camp as indiscipline would not be tolerated.

“Your assessment of your service year start right from the camp, you must obey the rules and respect camp officials as indiscipline would not be tolerated.

“The NYSC Orientation programme is designed to instill the core values of national service and adequately prepare you for significant responsibility you will face in the coming month.

She applauded Gov. Peter Mbah for revamping the NYSC camp clinic and additional sinking of borehole to enhance the camp environment.

Meanwhile, Gov. Peter Mbah urged the corps members to contribute significantly to national development through various initiatives, including elections, anti-corruption campaign, health initiatives and environmental conservation efforts.

Mbah represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Chidiebere Onyia, said that the state government was committed in providing conducive environment for the corps members.

“In Enugu State, we are committed to supporting the NYSC and contributing to the sustenance of its gains.

“We have commenced the renovating of the orientation Camp and providing critical infrastructure to ensure a conducive environment for your training,” he said.

Administering the oath of allegiance, the Chief Judge of the state, Justice Raymond Ozoemena urged the corps members to adhere to rules and instructions and stay out of any kind of criminal activity.

Ozoemena represented by Justice A C Ogbuabor urged them to avoid anything that would extend their one year programme.

The Chairman of Awgu Local Government Area, Mr Uchenna Okolo, assured the corps members of adequate security in the camp.

“All the security agents in Awgu are at alert at all times, adding that the governor had put a proper check in terms of security in the state,” he said.
