June 12: CLO urges Tinubu to rename INEC Headquarters after Humphrey Nwosu

Civil Liberties Organization , CLO, Anambra State branch on Sunday has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to rename INEC headquarters after Humphrey Nwosu to honour him for the transparent conduct of June 12th presidential election in the country.

The group, however, lauded Tinubu for his patriotism and wise decision in honouring and rewarding those who made tremendous patriotic selfless sacrifices in the enthronement of current democratic dispensation.

Recall that CLO has been in  the vanguard of agitation for honouring Nigerians who made immense contributions towards ending military rule and enthronement of democratic governance on 29th May 1999.

The group, In a press statement signed and issued to newsmen by Ezekwueme and his secretary, Comrade Chidi Mbah, respectively, in Awka, State capital, insisted that INEC Headquarters should be called “Prof.Humphrey Nwosu House”.

Ezekwueme, stated that, “It is cheering news and moral boost that Kudirat Abiola,Humphrey Nwosu,Alfred Rewane, Gani Fawehinmi and others, especially Ken Saro Wiwa and Ogoni nine executed under Abacha administration, were among those honoured.

“Tinubu should rename INEC Headquarters as “Prof.Humphrey Nwosu House” through his transparent conduct of June 12th presidential election he taught us and global community  that Nigerians have patriotic and transparent citizens that can do things right,” CLO stated.

“When a leader is right be with him, if he is still right stay with him, but when he is wrong criticize him constructively with civility”.

CLO however appealed to President Tinubu as insider and participant in June 12th struggle to kindly extend such honour and kind gesture to Commodore Ebitu Ukiwe, Yinka Odumakin.Joe Odumakin, Cardinal Anthony Okogie, Bishop Anthony Obinna, and.Pius Ezeife who according to him preferred to relinquish his exalted governorship position than to denounce sacred mandate given to MKO Abiola of Social Democratic Party (SDP) by majority of Nigeria electorate.

Also deserved to be honoured according to Ezekwueme are, .Nnanna Ukaegbu who went on indefinite self imposed hunger strike in protest over the annulment, Vincent Ezekwueme who went on 21 days hunger strike in expression of his protest and displeasure over the June 12th annulment, Col.Abubakar Umar, Balarabe Musa, Abubakar Rimi, Arthur Nwankwo and Senator Jonathan Zimgina, Abiola’s Campaign Organization Director General.

He said that honouring them will assuage the sufferings and agony of their families, give them sense of belonging over June 12th healing processes.

“We equally appeal to Tinubu to use this year democracy day to improve on security, create jobs, reduce cost of governance ,goods and services, provide basic necessities of life at affordable prizes, establish skills acquisition centres  and ensure Electoral Reforms,” he pleaded.
