Crisis: ADC chieftain, Silas Onu denies suspension, threatens court action in Ebonyi
By, Uchenna Okeh, Abakaliki
A chieftain of the main opposition party, African Democratic Party, ADC, Silas Onu on Friday denied of being suspended by the ward executives in Obiozara Ward, Ohaozara local government area of Ebonyi State.
He threatened to drag to court those who he described as ‘fake’ acting Chairman and Secretary, respectively, for defamation of character.
Onu made this known in a statement signed and issued to newsmen in Abakaliki, shortly after hearing of the purported suspension.

The statement reads in part: “My attention have been drawn to a publication titled “Breaking: ADC suspends Silas Onu over alleged anti-party, gross misconduct” on 24th April, 2026.
“In the publication, one Mr. Nwachukwu Peter Obinna and Akuma Martin, who claimed to be the Obiozara Ward “Acting” Chairman and Secretary, respectively, were reported to have issued an imaginary suspension letter to me.
“However that is not an important issue for me as these persons are clearly employed to defame my person and cause my reputation to be damaged.
“In their bid to satisfy the brief given to them, they stated thus “They further accused Onu of impersonation and representation at the just concluded National Convention where they said he allegedly engaged in criminal activities falsely representing himself as the Ebonyi State Chairman of ADC, misleading the National Leadership and delegates.
“Other grounds for his suspension include; financial exploitation of party members…” thus painting a picture of me as a fraudster without justification or basis.
“People are free to play politics however they feel is just for them. But where that insanity extends to attacking the reputation of another person without lawful or reasonable justification, with the maker of such statement will be held liable in a defamation suit.

“Firstly, I have asked that the identity of these individuals and their addresses be ascertained, so that my lawyer will immediately contact them with my intention to sue for defamation.
“This will afford them the opportunity of establishing their allegations that I am a fraudulent person.
Onu stated further that, “For the avoidance of doubt, not a single Ward in Ebonyi State has an Acting Executives, as election have been held across all 171 Ward with substantive leaders now running the affairs of each ward.
“The Chairman of Obiozara Ward is Mr. Godwin Njoku and he will never lend himself to such an infamous activity” he stressed.
