The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has seized contraband goods valued at over ₦72.6 million in Adamawa State.

It was gathered that the seizures were made in a series of operations spanning less than two weeks, demonstrating the agency’s unwavering commitment to dismantling smuggling networks.

Comptroller Garba Bashir of the Adamawa/Taraba Area Command disclosed the details of the seizures, highlighting the effectiveness of the NCS’s intelligence-driven operations.

According to him, “on March 8, Customs operatives intercepted a Toyota Corolla loaded with petrol at the Fufore-Gurin axis, foiling an attempt to smuggle the fuel into a neighboring country.

“In another operation on March 13, officers raided the Jimeta waterside along the River Benue, uncovering 240 drums of petrol intended for illegal transport to Cameroon.

“A further seizure was made on March 14, with the recovery of 425 jerrycans of petrol, each holding 25 liters.

The total seizures include 70,175 liters of petrol, as well as a seized vehicle, dealing a significant blow to the illicit fuel trade in the region.

Bashir, however, attributed the successes to enhanced intelligence sharing, technological leverage, capacity building, and coordinated border management.

The NCS has been working closely with other security agencies to combat smuggling, and Bashir praised the support of the NCS leadership under Comptroller-General Bashir Adewale Adeniyi.

He added that “This collaborative effort has yielded significant results, with the NCS remaining committed to protecting Nigeria’s economy and security”.
