From, Ene Asuquo, Calabar
The member representing Yakurr 1 State constituency in the Cross River State House Of Assembly, Cyril Omini has denied the allegations of his involvement in the scrap generator scandal maintaining that the allegations were fabricated lies to smear his reputation
Omini who spoke to our correspondent in Calabar in a telephone interview in his reaction said he was only called in to intervene on the activities of those men who were trying to steal the scrap generators, because according to the lawmaker, they only went to remove the scrap generators without authorization in his immediate constituency
He said “they went there to steal the generators that was probably why they went in pretence to buy from the village chiefs.”
According to Omini, “The Governor gave the person in charge the authorization to market the scrap generators. I was only called when the fellow who raised the alarm tried to steal the generator and I stopped him because it is my immediate constituency”
“Were they the ones who brought the generators? he queried. and besides,”there was full documentation from the state Commissioner for Power”, he maintained
Although, Mr Ade Adetunji the businessman who claims ownership of the scrap power generator has threatened to go to court and filed lawsuits against the law maker if he fails to hand over the 11000 KVA scrap generators which he claimed to have bought from Yakurr local government community stakeholders last year
Meanwhile, the police report of investigation has recommended in a serial number CB/7000/ZPC6/ZMU/vol 7165 dated February 6, 2024 that both should settle the matter amicably or else they would be left without option than to charge the matter to a court of competent jurisdiction.
