Calabar/Itu Highway: FG Gives Julius Berger 7days to return to site

The Federal Government has given construction giant, Julius Berger 7days notice to return to site or risks termination of contract on calabar/ Itu road project

The Minister of works, David Umahi gave the order in calabar during the Stakeholders engagement meeting on the alignment of section 3A of Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway

The Minister who was displeased with the attitude of some contractors handling the road project said that the Federal Government will no longer pay variation of price (VOP) maintaining that it is a fraud by contractors

“we are very sad that Julius Berger abandoned site without notifying us, which is a bridge of contract, we have issued them 7 days notice to return to site according to the law and if they don’t come back, we will issue 14 days termination of contract notice”, he stated

He commended SAMATEX construction for the kind of job the are doing in Calabar/ Itu Highway especially the concrete road, noting that out of all the companies that are handling the road project there, it is only SAMATEX that have worked according to specification, promising that they would encourage the company

On the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, the Minister presented and discussed the proposed alignment for the construction of the section 3A which is partly Akwa Ibom and partly Cross river state

He warned people not to build on the corridors that have been exposed for the project so that they will be compensated, maintaining that the Government will not pay such compensation to any body or group of people.
