Police neutralizes 3 suspected robbers, arrest one in Akwa Ibom

Akwa Ibom State Police Command on Tuesday said it has neutralized three armed men robbing the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) Hall/National Museum, Ikot Inyang Village, Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area of the State.
The police command added that one of the suspected armed robbers was captured alive, while others escaped with bullet wounds.
In a statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Odiko Macdon said the gang was responsible for robberies around Ikot Ekpene and environs.
The statement noted that the exploit was in compliance with the directives of the Commissioner of Police, CP Waheed Ayilara to clampdown on robbery, kidnapping and other security breaches in the state.
It noted that locally made pistol, one expanded and one live cartridges were recovered as well as vandalized wire cables among other items.
The statement reads in part, “The CP has handed down a standing order to smoke out and bring to justice those who think they can attempt to truncate the peace and tranquility of the State through kidnapping, armed robbery and other heinous crimes.
“In compliance with the CP’s directive, on 20/3/2024, Crack Team of Ikot Ekpene Division, responded to a distress call, engaged armed robbers, numbering about ten who were robbing at N.D.D.C Hall/National Museum, Ikot Inyang Village and environs.
“In the ensuing gun duel, three of the Suspects were neutralized while one was arrested and others escaped with bullet wounds. A locally made pistol, one expanded and one live cartridges were recovered. Also recovered were vandalized wire cables among other items.” It stated.
The commissioner however, warned criminals to steer clear the State, and vowed to ensure safety and security of residents of the State.
