Fire guts 5 houses in Agbokim Water Fall Community in C’River

Fire outbreak in Agbokim Water Fall Community in Etung local Government areas of Cross river State yesterday have destroyed about 5 houses and Property worth millions of naira.
Eye witness account, Thomas Akam, said that the fire broke out following activities of brisk business men involved in (black market) sale of petroleum product at the Agbokim Water fall beach.

Akam told our Correspondent that the fire sparked off from one of the petroleum jerrican that was kept in one of the buildings.
He said that the jerrican had a leakage that pave way for the premium motor spirit (PMS) to spill into a fire that was set close to the building.
Among the houses that were razed down include the house of the Etung Council Vice Chairman Hon. Assam Amba.
“This fire destroyed many property. We thank God that no life was lost. It was a terrible experience.
“The fire escalated due to absence of fire Service men who would have assisted in putting off the fire. The entire community was thrown into confusion.
It was gathered that the PMS product that sparked up the fire was meant for transit to Cameroon from Agbokim waterfall community.

Confirming the incident, the State director of fire service, Mr Dennis Ajom, confirmed the fire incident and stressed that his officers immediately swung into action to salvage the situation.
“Our office in Ikom local government area which is some few kilometers to Agborkim was aware.
They contacted our Ikom and our men mobilized to the scene of the fire incident immediately. I am awaiting a detailed report from them,”. He maintained.
