A devastating road accident involving a military vehicle and a commercial passenger bus has claimed the lives of six people, including four members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), in Adamawa State.
The tragic incident occurred at about 1:50 p.m. on Tuesday along the Narehi axis of the Girei–Song road, sending shockwaves across the state and leaving families, colleagues, and communities in mourning.
According to the Adamawa State Police Command, the crash involved a military gun truck travelling from Gombi toward Yola and a commercial Hummer bus conveying five passengers from Yola to Mubi.

Preliminary investigations indicate that both vehicles were involved in a head-on collision. The impact of the crash caused the commercial bus to overturn before it burst into flames, trapping its occupants inside.
All five passengers aboard the bus were burnt beyond recognition and died at the scene. Police authorities disclosed that four of the victims were serving corps members posted to Adamawa State under the National Youth Service Corps scheme.
The deceased corps members who have so far been identified are Suleuman Juliet and Usman Shuaibu, both indigenes of Kaduna State. Authorities said efforts are ongoing to identify the remaining victims and notify their families.
The Police Command also confirmed that a military personnel attached to the gun truck lost his life as a result of injuries sustained in the collision.
Emergency responders, including police operatives and other rescue agencies, swiftly arrived at the scene to evacuate victims and clear the roadway.
The remains of the deceased have been deposited at the Specialist Hospital, Yola, while investigations continue to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the accident.
Reacting to the tragedy, the Commissioner of Police in Adamawa State, CP Kabir Umar Hassan, fdc, expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives and extended his condolences to the bereaved families, the Nigerian Armed Forces, the National Youth Service Corps, and all those affected by the incident.
“This is a painful and heartbreaking loss. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the deceased during this difficult time,” the commissioner said through a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje.

The tragic death of the young corps members has particularly stirred emotions among residents, as many described the victims as promising young Nigerians who were serving their fatherland and contributing to the development of their host communities.
As investigations continue, authorities have assured the public that further information will be made available as more details emerge.
The accident adds to growing concerns over road safety on major highways across Adamawa State and serves as a grim reminder of the devastating consequences of road traffic collisions.
