A retired Assistant Commissioner of Police, Mailafiya Yakubu Agabi, has ahead of the forthcoming 2027 general election accepted calls to contest for the Nasarawa State House of Assembly seat for Obi I pp.

The Nations News reports that the acceptance followed a rousing reception by a large crowd at the Emir’s palace in Daddare Development Area of Obi Local Government Area.

Agabi’s acceptance came barely days after sustained pressure from the Daddare Progressive Minded Youth, who had urged him to join the race, citing his experience and track record in public service.

Addressing supporters at the palace on Monday, Agabi said he had listened to the yearnings of his people and was ready to represent them at the state legislature.

“I have heard your call, and I am ready to represent you at the Nasarawa State House of Assembly,” he said.

The former police chief, who was received by a massive crowd comprising youths, community leaders and traditional rulers, urged his supporters to conduct themselves peacefully throughout the political process.

“I want to appeal to all my supporters not to engage in any form of physical confrontation with anyone. Let us remain peaceful and engage people constructively, using evidence of what we have done for our people over the years,” he stated.

Agabi emphasized that his record of service would speak louder than political rhetoric. “My work will prove my capacity, not noise.
