The Chairman of Bakassi local government Council, Effiong Etim has said that some few indigenes clamoring for the delisting of Bakassi don’t in anyway represent the position of the people, instead are trying to destabilize the peace and unity of the people of Bakassi because of their selfish reasons.

Etim who made this known during an exclusive interaction with our correspondent in Calabar, stated that the entire thing is politically motivated by a certain few persons who have ran out of political favour and are using this to look for cheap recognition

He said as a government, they understand the plight of the people and that the government is very passionate about it.”we understand their challenges and the government is also intervening in most of the areas of their needs

The council boss accused the immediate past Chairman of Bakassi, Iyadim Amboni Iyadim and his cohort for trying to insight the people against the government

“The entire thing is politically motivated by a certain number of people who want to hold unto political powers”.

” What they are doing now is looking for recognition and perhaps financial settlement or whatever settlement in whatever way,” he stated.

In his reaction through a telephone interview, the immediate past Chairman of Bakassi local government council, Iyadim Amboni Iyadim maintained that Bakassi local government has been delisted if to go by the judgement of ICJ in 2002

The former council boss maintained that as a chairman, he had no direct access to their allocation that would have helped him develop the Day spring 1 and 2

He said since the government can not develop Bakassi especially the day spring 1 and 2 then the purpose is defeated, Bakassi should be delisted

When asked about the foundation he laid for the development of day spring 1 and 2, Iyadim said, ” local Government chairmen in cross river can not operate freely because you don’t have direct access to your allocation”.

“So what ever money that is given to you periodically is for specific projects” he stated.
