Gov Alia  swears-in 13 new permanent Secretaries, warns against partisan politics, insubordination

The governor of Benue State, Hyacinth Alia on Tuesday, sworn in 13 newly appointed  permanent secretaries with a charge on them to avoid partisan politics and shun insubordination.

The governor who sworn in the new permanent secretaries at government House, Makurdi, enjoined them to live up to expectations so that the confidence reposed in them would not be eluded.

He enjoined them to conduct themselves as responsive and responsible officers who are duty bound to implement policies and programmes of the administration in line with its seven point agenda.

While reminding that there had been agitations from among the civil servants as to when he would appoint new Permanent Secretaries and swear in same, said  the agitations have come to passed, and now it’s time for the new permanent secretaries to get to work and discharge their duties with ultimate regards to constituted authorities.

He explained that as a government, they took time to search carefully and conducted due diligence to arrive at those thirteen officers, adding that their appointments were based on merit as Civil Servants with cognate experience, proven integrity and exemplary track record of service.

“The new permanent secretaries are men and women our administration could vauch for because of their antecedents. I like to once again emphasize that these appointments are not mere political patronage but reward for hard work.

“I wish to therefore, urge you to brace up for the responsibilities ahead of you. As the Administrative Heads of the Ministries, you must ensure that Staff adhere to the codes of the Civil Service. Discipline and respect for constituted authorities should be the watchword among your Staff.

“You must avoid partisan politics and conduct yourselves as responsive and responsible Officers who are duty bound to implement policies and programmes of the administration in line with its seven point agenda.

“Be advised that anyone of you found culpable of any form of misconduct or anything capable of tarnishing the image of this government would be made to face appropriate sanctions. Our eyes would be placed on you not to police you but ensure that you do the right things all the time”, Alia stated.

Those sworn in as new permanent secretaries includes; Elvis Ogenyi, Cephas Hough, Mrs. Tyoishi, A, Philip Nongu and Mrs. Martha Edor,, James Iorpuu, Mr. Batholomew Geraga, Mrs. Eunice Ihu Ogbenyi and Thomas Ese.

Others include; Mrs. Amine M. Bebbie ,Mrs. Babbie, Donald K. Wakwagh and Mrs. Helen Nembativ.
