Alia Vows To Revive Abandoned Igumale Cement Factory, Construct More Access Roads.
From Attah Ede, Makurdi
Benue state governor Hyacinth Alia, has said his administration will revive the Igumale Cement Factory located in Ado local government area of the State and construct more access roads in the area.
The Igumale Cement Factory project was started during the administration of senator George Akume but was later abandoned by successive governments.
The governor while speaking at Okpoga during his thank you tour of Enone consisting of Ado/Okpokwu/Ogbadibo Federal Constituency, said he will meet with the caretaker committee chairmen for the three (3) local government areas and work out the modalities of constructing a road linking the areas.
He explained that it is very important to have good roads around the cement area, so that if one wants to travel with investors to the area, they should travel on a good road.
Governor Alia who thanked the people for the confidence they reposed in him to lead the State, promised to light up Okpoga, the headquarters of Enone federal constituency in Okpokwu LGA.
“I see that Okpoga is in darkness, I will light it up with 5000 kW electricity. I have come to reduce your pains and suffering. Continue to support my administration and be patient with Mr. President, he has good policies for Nigerians”, Alia appealed.
He disclosed that upon assumption of office, his administration inherited over 359 billion naira owed workers of the State for several years.
He said it’s unfair, inhumane for the previous administration not to pay workers salary and still lied to the people that the federal government denied them funds to pay salary.
Alia promised that his administration will continue to prioritize the payment of workers salary, announcing that henceforth, civil servants in the State will be paid from 22nd of every month.
Earlier, a former Senatorial candidate and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress Daniel Onjeh challenged the Governor to match actions with words in fulfilling campaign promises to the people.
Onjeh said the opposition parties are mocking the people that he(Governor) has abandoned them in terms of infrastructures and appointments.
‘The opposition is asking what you have done for Benue South. We want to see things manifest. Do not be distracted by the blackmail of the opposition”, he said.
APC acting chairman Benjamin Omakolo, said the governor inherited a dead state and is working hard to bring it back to life.
The Nations News Nigeria reports that the highlight of the occasion was the defection of over 500 persons from the opposition parties to the APC.
