Ibom Air launches ‘FAM-pact’ Project To Tackle Malaria In Akwa Ibom

Akwa Ibom State government owned Airline, ‘Ibom Air’, has launched a ‘FAM-pact’ project to stem the tide of malaria prevalence in the state, especially among pregnant women and children below the age of five.

The General Manager, Marketing and Communication of Ibom Air, Aniekan Essienette, in a statement signed and issued to newsmen said “FAM-pact” is a flagship disease prevention initiative, that collaborates with other stakeholders to care for the vulnerable and significantly reduce the ills of malaria in the society

The GM, Essienette who donated doses of SP oral and Insecticide Treated Nets to the state Ministry of health for onward distribution to the target population said the donation was in commemoration of 2024 World Malaria Day and part of the Community Social Responsibility of the organization.

She added that Ibom Air also donated educational materials to the State Ministry of Health which would directly benefit communities across the state.

The statement reads in part: “Ibom Air commemorates 2024 World Malaria Day by launching its signature CSR project, FAM-pact (Fight Against Malaria in Pregnant Women and Children Today). This initiative underscores Ibom Air’s dedication to making a positive impact in the communities it serves by addressing the urgent issue of malaria among pregnant women and children under the age of five.

“FAM-pact is designed to significantly decrease malaria prevalence in these vulnerable groups through a range of strategic interventions, including awareness campaigns, distribution of insecticide-treated nets, provision of malaria medications, and community outreach programs. As part of its launch, Ibom Air has donated insecticide-treated nets, essential malaria medications, and educational materials to the Akwa Ibom State Ministry of Health, directly benefiting communities across the state.”

The statement further explained that “Ibom Air’s CSR thrust which is centered around health education and community development has under the health initiative partnered with organizations that take special care of infants and children’s needs and have facilitated much-needed intervention for children undergoing corrective heart surgery, amongst others.

She called on communities to join the FAM-pact initiative and contribute to the fight against malaria for a healthier society.

In his remarks, the Akwa Ibom state Commissioner for Health, Augustine Umoh who received the items for the state government, urged other companies operating in the state to join hands with the state government in the health sector to drive the A-R-I-S-E Agenda .
