LG Polls: Uncertainty as Senator Ken Eze shuns APC Campaign rally in Ezza South

Fresh uncertainty has emerged within political circles in Ebonyi State following the absence of Senator Kenneth Eze, representing Ebonyi Central Senatorial District, from the All Progressives Congress (APC) campaign rally held in Ezza South Local Government Area ahead of the August 22, 2026 local government election.

The rally, organized by the ruling APC as part of its grassroots mobilization drive, brought together party leaders, government officials, traditional stakeholders, women and youth groups, as well as supporters from across Ezza South to galvanize support for the party’s candidates. 

The event was widely regarded as a strategic step in the APC’s preparations for the forthcoming council polls.

The Nations News observed that virtually all major political stakeholders from Ezza Nation attended the campaign, reaffirming their commitment to the party and pledging to work for the victory of the APC chairmanship candidate for Ezza South, Chinedu Mkpuma, alongside councillorship candidates contesting on the party’s platform.

However, the conspicuous absence of Senator Eze, one of the APC’s highest-ranking elected officials from the area, quickly became the subject of discussion among party faithful and political observers, many of whom described his non-attendance as unexpected given the significance of the campaign.

While several party members expressed confidence that the senator remains committed to the APC, others privately admitted that his absence had generated speculation within political circles. 

As of the time of filing this report, no official statement had been issued by Senator Eze or his media team explaining why he did not attend the rally.

Efforts to obtain comments from some party officials on the matter yielded little, as many declined to speculate on the reasons behind the senator’s absence.

Others maintained that the party remained united and fully focused on winning the forthcoming local government election.

Political analysts say the absence of a prominent party leader from a major campaign event often fuels public interest, particularly during an election season when every political appearance is closely scrutinized. 

They, however, cautioned against drawing conclusions without an official explanation from the senator or his associates.

Despite the development, speakers at the rally urged party members to sustain the momentum of the campaign, intensify grassroots mobilization, and ensure overwhelming support for all APC candidates across polling units in Ezza South.

The campaign also featured renewed calls for unity among party members, with stakeholders emphasizing that collective effort would be crucial to securing victory at the polls. 

They encouraged supporters to remain peaceful and participate actively in the electoral process.

As campaigning gathers pace across Ebonyi State, attention is likely to remain on Senator Kenneth Eze and whether he will publicly clarify the circumstances surrounding his absence from the Ezza South rally. 

Until then, questions over the development are expected to remain a topic of discussion within the state’s political landscape.
