IBB urges politicians, Nigerians to shun divisive politics, embrace Peace
By Daniel Ebi , Minna
The former military president, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, has called on political actors and Nigerians to prioritize national unity, peaceful coexistence and tolerance as political campaigns gather momentum ahead of the forthcoming elections.
Babangida made the appeal when members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential and Gubernatorial Campaign Council in Niger State paid him a courtesy visit at his Hilltop residence in Minna.
He urged politicians and citizens to place the collective interest of the country above personal and partisan considerations, warning against actions capable of threatening national cohesion during the electioneering period.
The former military leader also stressed the need for political tolerance, mutual respect and peaceful engagement among supporters of different political parties, while praying for peaceful and successful elections in Niger State and the country.

The Director-General of the campaign council and former Deputy Governor of Niger State, Ambassador Ahmed Musa Ibeto, who led the delegation, thanked Babangida for his counsel and prayers.
Ibeto said the council would encourage issue-based campaigns focused on development rather than divisive political rhetoric.

He also assured that the campaign council would work to ensure that political activities across the state were conducted peacefully, with the unity and security of residents given priority.
The visit comes as political parties intensify preparations for the forthcoming elections.
