2nd batch: Controversy trails number of released Catholic school Children in Niger

The Catholic Diocese of Kontagoro has confirmed the released of the second batch of the abducted papiri catholic school children and staff, but are yet to ascertain the exact number freed.
In a letter dated 21st December sited by our correspondent on Monday, and signed by the Catholic Diocese of Kontagoro sectary, Rev Father Jatau Luka Joseph.
He confirmed the second batch of the pupils, Students and staff release and commended the Federal Government, Niger state Government and security agencies for securing the release of the captives.

The statement also commended every other parties whose efforts and intervention contributed to the safe release of the victims.
” We extend our sincere appreciation to the parents, Guardians, Clergy, religious communities, humanitarian organisations, and the wider public for their prayers , support and solidarity throughout this challenging period”
However, the statement was silent on the number of victims freed, but assured that, further updates and additional information as may be necessary will be communicated to the public.

There are conflicting figures as some sources sources claimed a total of 115 captives were released while unverified sources claimed 130 were freed as the public await the public presentation of the victims to Governor Muhammad Umar Bago.
