DUFUHS VC, Uneke tasks Polymer Institute members to focus on research system

The Vice Chancellor of David Umahi Federal University of Health Sciences (DUFUHS) Uburu Ebonyi State, Jesse Uneke, has tasked members of the Polymer Institute of Nigeria (PIN), to focus on transformative research in Polymer Science, to enable the country achieve United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Uneke gave the admonition while declaring open the 35th Annual Technical Conference/AGM of Polymer Institute held at DUFUHS campus Uburu.

The Conference has its theme,” Transformative Research in Polymer Science, Engineering and Technology for Sustainable Development -a multi- disciplinary approach.
The core mandate of Polymer Institute of Nigeria (PIN) as Scientists is among other issues, to continue polymer research, production of materials for the development of mankind.
The University Don was represented by the deputy Vice -Chancellor (Academics) Clementina Igwebike Ossi, who doubled as the Chairman National Organizing Committee (NOC) for DUFUHS 2025.
Uneke harps on the need for adoption of multi-disciplinary collaboration and knowledge creation as key aspect of transformative research system.
“Let’s focus on transformative research that will solve societal problems, you are solving problem of the society, climate change is a multi faceted problem that involves multi-dimensional approach”
Welcoming the delegates, the National President of Polymer Institute of Nigeria, Paul Ejikeme, commended the management of DUFUHS, for the hospitality accorded to members of the body.
Earlier in a Paper presentation titled “Instruments of Managing Single Use Plastic Pollution, Nnaemeka Andegbe Chukwuone (Director Environment for Development (EFD) Nigeria, observed that increased production and consumption of plastics, lead to rapid increases in plastics releases to the environment.
“Plastic pollution in Nigeria is common due to high consumption and poor waste management, with an inefficient waste management system, both plastic and non-plastic waste ends up in drainage channels”
“Every year, 19 to 23 million of plastics enter the ocean thereby polluting every where”
In attendance at the event were the Chairman Board of Trustees of the Institute Chief Alexis Ajuebon represented by S .H.O Egbo, Vice Chancellor Bayero University Kano represented by Magajji, Nnaemeka Andegbe (Director Environment for Development and members of the Institute among others.
