Building collapse in Anambra community kills one, injures one

At least one person was allegedly killed and another sustained severe injury when a two storey building located along Prince Chinedu Akwuaka street, Akpaka phase 11, GRA, Onitsha North Local Government area, Anambra state, collapsed about 9am in the morning.
The collapse of the building was attributed to flash flood that was wearing down the old foundation of the building which resulted in the untimely death of the victim, a visitor and sustaining of severe injury by a tenant.
The deceased victim, a trader, was said to have come to visit his sister that was residing in the building and resolved to sleep over when in the early morning while he was still on the bed due to the heavy downpour, the building collapsed.
On a tip off the “33′ Divisional Police Officer, DPO, Rev. Canon Chukwunonso Adulphus Onunkwor, (CSP), with his team rushed to the scene, rescued the two victims and took them to the hospital where one was confirmed dead on arrival and the other placed on danger list.
The DPO and team reportedly cordoned off the premises to avoid looters using the opportunity to loot as sympathizers stormed to have a glimpse of the victims and building.

Meanwhile the local Government area has allegedly sealed the building premises pending the next line of action, as at the time of filing this report.
