The Anambra State branch of Civil Liberties Organization, CLO, has commended Governor Chukwuma Soludo for allegedly rejecting to take the World Bank loan for the rapid infrastructural development of the state.

Recall that the governor, Soludo will in a few months to come, participate in the forthcoming 2025 November governorship election to complete his two terms.

The state chairman of the group, Vincent Ezekwueme stated that, “This is a clear indication that the governor has conscience and fanaticism when it comes to the interest and wellbeing of the state and her citizens. It is interesting to note that he has prudently and judiciously utilized and still utilizes public funds for public good and interest”.

In a press statement signed and issued to newsmen in Onitsha by Ezekwueme and his secretary, Chidi Mbah, tagged, “statesmen think about next generation whereas politicians think about next election,” CLO extolled the governor for rejecting World bank loan he considered as bad deal.

“We are humbled and overwhelmed by the governor’s decision not to obtain the loan because of its unfavorable repayment conditions as well as to avert unnecessary burden on the state by rejecting the loan as its repayment will be very cumbersome.

“We equally commend him for unprecedented laudable projects he has executed, still executing without borrowing money from financial institutions.

“Worthy of commendation include relentless efforts to restore security, roads constructions and rehabilitations, Homeland security law and efforts to restore moral rectitude and values in the state.

Recall that the strategic road was awarded by former Governor Willie Obiano but due to alleged paucity of funds, it was abandoned after completion of nearly 40 per cent of the road project.
