It was by divine intervention that the Chief security officer of Obosi community, Idemili North Local Government Area, Anambra State, Dan Igbokwubili, narrowly escaped death by the whiskers from the hands of suspected assassins who set his vehicle ablaze.
Impeccable inside sources disclosed that the security boss who was a former President General of the community, was returning to his house when his vehicle was riddled with bullets by the suspected assassins who allegedly laid ambush to assassinate him.
The identity of the assassins could not be immediately ascertained but his vehicle went up in flames as a result of the bullets rained on it which resulted in residents deserting the scene of the incident.
It was gathered that on sighting Igbokwubili driving closer to where they laid ambush, the hoodlums rained bullets at him and as ex-police officer, escaped to safety, abandoning his vehicle by the road side as it went on flame.
Recall that Igbokwubili, an ex-police officer, was appointed as CSO of the community by the traditional ruler of Obosi Kingdom, Igwe Chidubem Iweka(Eze Iweka III) and his cabinet members.
However, no life was lost, but eyewitnesses in the community said during the encounter, the hoodlums set ablaze his private vehicle after riddling it with bullets.
“He was accosted along the road by the assassins while driving home. They had laid an ambush along the road and as Igbokwubili was driving past, they opened fire on his vehicle, riddled it with bullets while he fell down and pretended to be dead.
“As he regained his consciousness, he took to his heels and was pursued by one of the assassins, but as a trained police officer, he retreated and kicked the assassin with his leg, hitting him on his manhood, and when the assassin slumped, he barely managed to escape and rushed to a nearby hospital for medical attention.
“The incident created panic in the community as residents scampered to safety as bullets were sounding heavily,” the sources alleged.
Contacted, the traditional ruler of the community, Igwe Chidubem Iweka, regretted that the attack came at a time when the community is celebrating its independence from the grip of cultists, assassins and kidnappers.
Iweka, however warned that the Obosi community would not fold its arms and watch hoodlums have a field day in the community, even as he noted that efforts are still being intensified to leave no stone unturned in tracking down the culprits.
Contacted on the development also, the state police spokesman, Tochukwu Ikenga, (SP), confirmed the incident, saying that the police were tracking the criminals.
His words, “Yes, we are aware of the incident and we have got a clue. We are following up regarding the incident for possible arrest. The situation in the area is calm and further developments will be communicated please.”
