Kidnappers demand #40m ransom from abducted S-Africa based Nigerian

Kidnappers have reportedly demand #40 million ransom from an abducted South Africa based Nigerian (names withheld),  who was  reportedly abducted in the evening on 1st January 2026, from his country home, Obinagu Isikweachi, Orji River Local Government area, Enugu state, by a six man kidnap gang, who masked themselves.

He was said to have been brought to a yet to be identified location along the Isulo community axis, Orumba South Local Government area, Anambra state, from where he escaped from his abductors and luckily fell into the hands of Police-led joint security operatives attached to the Forward Operating Base (FOB), Aguata.

Narrating his ordeal in the hands of his abductors to the police team that was on routine visibility patrol in the early hours of 15th January 2026, the victim commended the police for coming to his rescue.

The South Africa based victim disclosed that he is a Nigerian citizen and native of Obinagu–Isikweachi, Oji River Local Government Area of Enugu State, but is currently based in South Africa.

He revealed further that the kidnappers had demanded a ransom of ₦40 million from his wife and relatives, but however, managed to escape from the kidnappers’ den, leading to his eventual rescue by the joint security operatives.

Confirming the incident, the State Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Tochukwu Ikenga, (SP), said following his rescue, the victim was properly debriefed and has since been reunited with his family.

According to him the operatives are actively working with actionable intelligence provided by the victim to identify and dislodge the criminal hideout within the area and arrest those responsible.

He stated ,”The Anambra State Police Command continues to reiterate its commitment to sustaining proactive policing.
