Clergyman decries insecurity, task leaders in Nigeria to shun materialism

The Moderator General of the Reformed Presbyterian church of Nigeria, Rt. Rev. Chima Uduma at the weekend decried the rising insecurity in Nigeria, and however, called on political leaders and clergymen to shun materialism.

Uduma made this known while speaking with newsmen, shortly after the dedication/ commissioning of the Reformed Presbyterian church, Abakaliki parish, located opposite Ezekuna hall, off nsugbe street, Abakaliki capital of Ebonyi State.

He frowned at the continued hardship and sufferings that Nigerians are passing through, especially under the present federal government administration, and called on christians to go back to God in prayer and in repentance.

According to him: “We all are affected by the condition of the country, and it’s time, we go back to God. This is because no expert or economist has answer to Nigeria’s problem.

“As a nation, we have gotten it wrong. We must tell our selves the truth, both the political class and the masses have gotten it wrong, and we need to go back to God in repentance.

“The insecurity and other problems affecting the people, is happening in the society where the church is found. This kidnappers belong to the families, and most of them do go to church also. There is a need for the church to rise up and condemn what is condemnable.

“Those of us who are in the church, needs to shun materialism, because that’s the major issue, people wants to make wealth quick, and therefore go into problems. People should be contented with what they have, with that, everything will be well in Nigeria” he stated

Earlier in a remark, the chairman planning committee, Rev. Odicha Ude said that a total of one hundred and seven million was used to build the Abakaliki Parish of the Reformed Presbyterian church of Nigeria.

Responding, the former Commissioner to Ebonyi state government on works and transport, Mr. Paul Okorie, also decried the high rate of sufferings and hardship that have befall Nigerians.

Okorie who is the chairman building committee, noted further that: “I’m not a pretender, all is not well with the country. I recommend that the people who is in charge of affairs of the country, should go back to the drawing board and see how to reduce the hardship, because people are really suffering.

He tasked government at all levels to hear the cryings of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, and Trade Union Congress, TUC, and reduce poverty/ sufferings of people in the country.
