Bekwara Council Chairman, Ushie impeached over alleged gross misconduct, abuse of office

Barely 4 months after assuming office, the legislative arm of Bekwarra Council in Cross River State has announced the impeachment of the chairman of the Council, Theresa Akwaji Ushie. 

The embattled chairman, Ushie was allegedly impeached based on the allegation of gross misconduct and abuse of public office.

The councillors announced the impeachment through a statement signed by the Council Leader, Thompson Inah, and made available to newsmen in Cross River state.

The sacked Chairman,Ushie was also accused by the councillors to be stifling the development of  Bekwarra Council and thereby compromising the development agenda of the governor, Prince Bassey Otu in the state.

The leader of the House said the Councillors considered 12 impeachable charges against the Chairman of the Council ranging from high level of mal-administration, high handedness and serious retrogression leading to misappropriation of public funds by the Chairman.

The impeachment notice, according to the statement was in accordance with the provisions of the Cross River State Local government Law (Part 11, Section 12, Subsection (1) and (2) was duly signed by Nine (9) out of the Ten (10) councillors representing the 10 wards of Bekwarra Council.
