Scotland, West African Energy leaders to deepen Collaboration at Aberdeen Summit
By Chinda Shedrach
The senior energy executives from West Africa are set to meet with Scottish industry leaders in Aberdeen this September under a new partnership between Aberdeenshire-based business analyst George Okoroma and the Scottish Africa Business Association (SABA).
The four-day programme, scheduled for September 1 to 4, 2026, is designed to strengthen business ties between West African energy companies and Scotland’s oil, gas, renewable energy, and energy transition sectors.
According to the organisers, the initiative responds to growing interest from Scottish firms seeking structured access to West Africa’s expanding energy market while creating opportunities for African companies to collaborate with established Scottish businesses.
A key feature of the programme will be participation in the Energy Exports Conference in Aberdeen on September 2 and 3. Delegates will also take part in pre-arranged business meetings with Scottish energy firms, closed-door industry roundtables, site visits to strategic facilities, including Aberdeen Harbour, and a high-level networking dinner.

The organisers said the programme is designed around pre-qualified business matchmaking, ensuring that every delegate is paired with relevant Scottish partners before arriving in Aberdeen.
“Too often, international business visits rely on chance encounters and missed opportunities. This delegation removes that uncertainty by ensuring every meeting is pre-qualified, every introduction is purposeful, and every engagement is focused on delivering measurable value,” the organisers said.
Okoroma, Senior Business Design and Analysis Lead at NatWest Group, said the initiative would help bridge the gap between West Africa’s energy ambitions and Scotland’s technical expertise.
“West African energy companies have world-class ambitions. What this delegation does is remove the barriers between those ambitions and the Scottish expertise that can help realise them. I am proud to be the bridge that makes that connection possible,” he said.
Beyond his banking role, Okoroma also works with FIDIC Africa and recently led the launch of the organisation’s e-magazine during its 2026 infrastructure conference in Ghana.
The organisers noted that Scotland’s expertise in offshore oil and gas, subsea engineering, offshore wind, hydrogen production, and carbon capture and storage offers significant opportunities for collaboration with West African countries seeking to expand energy access, optimise hydrocarbon resources, and accelerate their energy transition efforts.

The programme will feature technical sessions on oil and gas optimisation, well intervention, renewable energy, hydrogen, offshore wind, and investment models, alongside tours of energy facilities and one-on-one meetings with Scottish suppliers and project developers.
SABA said participation will be limited to a select number of senior energy professionals from across West Africa to ensure a focused and high-value engagement.
Following the September mission, Okoroma will continue to support West African energy companies seeking to establish or expand their presence in Scotland through strategic partnerships, market access, and business development initiatives.
