2027 polls: Group tips Ex-ACP Agabi for Nasarawa Assembly Seat
From Abel Zwanke, Lafia
A group on the eagis of Daddare Progressive Minded Youth has ahead of the forthcoming 2027 general election tipped a retired Assistant Commissioner of Police, Mailafiya Yakubu Agabi, to join the race for the Nasarawa State House of Assembly seat, representing Obi I Constituency.
The youth group urged the former police chief to heed what it described as a collective demand by constituents seeking credible and people-oriented representation.
The group, in a statement signed by it’s President, Comrade Aminu Musa Relwanu, and made available to newsmen in Lafia, called on the residents of Daddare and the wider Obi I Constituency to rally behind the appeal.

The statement reads in part: “We are calling on the entire people of Daddare to join us in urging Retired ACP, Mailafiya Yakubu Agabi, to answer our call to represent us as a member of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly for Obi I Constituency,” Relwanu said.
He noted that the call did not emerge in isolation but followed what he described as “extensive consultations” among youths, community stakeholders and opinion leaders across the area.
According to him, “This appeal reflects the yearnings of our people who are desirous of a leader with integrity, discipline and a proven track record in public service.
At this critical time, Obi I Constituency needs a representative who understands the challenges of the people and is ready to provide effective legislative voice.”
Relwanu further argued that Agabi’s experience in security and diplomacy would be an added advantage in addressing issues of insecurity and underdevelopment confronting the constituency.
“Given his background as a retired Assistant Commissioner of Police and his exposure as a diplomat, we are confident that he has the capacity to attract development, promote peace and contribute meaningfully to lawmaking for the benefit of our people,” he added.
The group stressed that its position was in line with the growing desire among youths to play a more active role in shaping the political future of the constituency.

He said, “As youths, we cannot afford to remain passive. We are mobilising support for credible individuals who can truly represent our interests and bring government closer to the grassroots.”
Relwanu also called on political stakeholders, traditional leaders and other interest groups in Obi I Constituency to support the call, insisting that unity of purpose would be key to achieving the desired representation.
