Bauchi: ADC Sacks Chairman over anti-party, As Tabla Takes Over on Acting Capacity
By: Ajiya Ayuba, Bauchi
The African Democratic Party (ADC) has suspended its Bauchi State chapter chairman, Hassan over allegations of activities.
Briefing the press in Bauchi, the vice chairman of the party, Mahmood Hassan Tabla, who took over as Acting chairman, said the embattled chairman was suspended by the 20 chairmen of the party across the state.
The acting chairman said that African Democratic Congress is one of the Political Parties registered by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the most reliable opposition party in Nigeria.

“You may recall that the Chairmen of the ADC in the 20 Local Governments of Bauchi State in exercise of their powers under the ADC Constitution set up a Disciplinary Committee and sent a formal query containing allegations against the former State Chairman Mallam Hassan Haruna where they accused him of anti party activities and parallelization (causing a faction) in the Wards and Local Government levels by recognizing different sets of party executives and other infractions contrary to ARTICLE 15 (A) of the ADC Constitution.
He said that the former State Chairman refused to respond to the Query and the Disciplinary Committee recommended his Suspension from Office which the Local Government Chairmen approved and accordingly announced his suspension pursuant to their powers as provided in ARTICLE 14 (B) and ARTICLE 15 (B).
“The Disciplinary Committee and the Local Government Executives reminded the suspended State Chairman of his right to Appeal against the decision within 14 days in line with ARTICLE 15 (D) of the ADC Constitution.
“Rather than defending himself against the allegations or exercising his right of Appeal against the decision to suspend him, the suspended Chairman Mallam Hassan Haruna caused a PRESS RELEASE dated 18th January, 2026 and convened a meeting on 19th January, 2026 where they release the names of 20 people as Chairmen of the ADC in the 20 Local Governments of Bauchi State”
“The same date of 19th January, 2026 was the date His Excellency Atiku Abubakar (Wazirin Adamawa) and the ADC National Chairman Senator David Mark received in audience a delegation of the Bauchi State Stakeholders. You can verify it from the Facebook and X(Twitter) postings by His Excellency Atiku Abubakar (Wazirin Adamawa) himself”
“After the expiration of the 14 days open for Appeal, the Local Government Executives in collaboration with their Ward Executives further resolved and issued CIRCULAR No. BA 01/003/2026 which removed Mallam Hassan Haruna from office as State Chairman of the ADC and directed me as his Deputy to take over as Acting Chairman of the Party”

He further said that the ward and local government executives alleged that the Press Release dated 18th January, 2026 by the suspended Chairman and his utterances of calling them “BANDITS”,
“HIRED AGENTS” were highly defamatory of their character and further attempts to announce a New Secretary and new Set of Local Government Chairmen as an infringement of not only the ADC Constitution but the rules of engagement under the Freedom of Association provided by the 1999 Constitution of Nigeria.
“The Bauchi State High Court has on the 4th February, 2026 issued an Order of Interim Injunction restraining them from parading themselves as ADC Executives and adjourned for further hearing to 19th February, 2026. A copy of the Court Order in Suit No. BA 38/2026 is available for sighthing”
According to the acting chairman said that “I wish to formally inform you of my assumption of duty as the Bauchi State Chairman of the African Democratic Congress with effect from today till the resolution of the Court Case and/or holding of a valid Congress electing new executives of the Party in line with the Constitution”
“My decision to assume office is further necessitated by the rejection of efforts of the National Executives to intervene an ensure sanity and constitutional compliance in running the affairs of the ADC which the removed former Chairman Mallam Hassan Haruna is not interested in pursuing especially with radio remarks from some of his accomplices”

“You may wish to know that a few weeks ago the National Leadership of our Party convened a Bauchi State Stakeholders Meeting in Abuja led by Alhaji Adamu Maina Waziri and Alhaji Kashim Imam who sought to broker peace. But rather than abiding by the resolutions at the meeting, the narratives fed to ADC Members by some people was totally misleading and provocative”
The ADC acting chairman, Mahmood Hassan Tabla pleaded for co’operation to ensure the mandate of the team is discharged in good time.
“The task ahead is big and no person is bigger than the ADC Constitution. As new State Chairman, I will act in line with the provisions of the ADC and
Nigerian Constitution and guidelines from the respected National Executives of the ADC to ensure that the ADC is successful in the 2027
Election.
That is what the Nigerian Citizens deserve and we are working towards that”
“ADC is now at peace and belongs to all interested in genuine partisan democracy. Those willing to join are enjoined to do so as our membership cards will be issued soon. In ADC there will be level playing ground for all interested in voting or being voted for”
