Immediate past governor of Benue state and leader of the main  opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Benue State, Chief Samuel Ortom, on Sunday lamented that the party  failed woefully in the 2023 general elections due to the activities of some individuals whom he described as termites and mosquitoes within party.

He said there is  every need to thank God because those termites and mosquitoes with  their collaborators are gradually leaving the PDP to a faceless ‘Atiku Deceiving Coalition” called ADC.

Chief Ortom who spoke during the expanded caucus meeting of the party held in Makurdi, insisted that the party is not in coalition with any group or  political party, stressing that any PDP member found promoting coalition within the party should be expelled.

According to him, those PDP members clamouring for coalition were the termites, bedbugs and mosquitoes that stood against the party in 2023 and made them to lose the governorship seat in Benue State.

” PDP did not loose elections in 2023 but were rigged out due to the activities of these individuals. With their exist, PDP is more formidable and more  united to produce the next governor of state come 2027 that would take care of the people, the state and implement the Anti Open Grazing and Ranches establishment.

“We will produce a government that is going to stop foreign invaders from invading our ancestral homes and restore a government that will care for the ordinary people and ensure that our land are not taking over my foreign Invaders and become the food basket of the nation that we are known for”, he stated.  

Ortom urged leaders of the party at all levels including the State, Zonal, local government and ward leaders to remain united and promote the ideals of the party, assuring that despite losing the 2023 elections, the party is still  intact and formidable to win all elections come 2027.

In his Senate Minority leader and senator representing Benue South Senatorial District, Senator Abba Moro said PDP remain one of the competitive and strong political parties whose umbrella still remains intact in Nigeria.

He said “Members of the PDP are not deterred by the circumstances currently being experience. My observation is simple. PDP is very competitive, very strong and umbrella is very intact.

“The most unfortunate thing about the Coalition using the ADC platform is that, some PDP members fell aggrieved after losing out during the last state congresses. 

“But the truth is that some people have moved from certainty to uncertainty. For me there is no reason to leave the PDP. Not today, not in the future. I want everybody to be battle-ready. 

“We have won elections in the past and we will do it again. There is no other political party in Benue state other than the PDP”, Abba alluded.

In his remarks the state PDP chairman, Chief Ezikiel Adaji acknowledged that PDP is the only party in Nigeria that does things democratically.

He noted that though there was little misunderstanding within the party among national Assembly members and however said the issue is being handled by the PDP Governors Forum and other leaders of the party assuring that within a short time, it shall be resolved. 

He urged members to remain calm and keep faith with the party stressing that the leadera of the party across the state have all agreed to do everything within their powers to keep the party alive.

He said PDP in Benue will not rest until power is wrestled from the present administration as nothing is currently moving in the state in terms of development.

According to him, apart from former governor, Gabriel Suswam, there is no other serious personality in ADC in Benue State that will pose a threat to the PDP from ousting the Hyacinth Alia-led APC in the state.

He directed ward chairmen of the PDP to forward letters of resignation of members of the party to other political parties to the PDP secretariat for onward transmission to the national office.

In his goodwill message, former governorship aspirant in the 2023 general election, Dennis Ityavyar, said Governor Alia has failed and won’t return to Benue Government House in 2027, while the aspirant for national chairman, Terhide Utaan, assured of their loyalty to the leadership of the party for a better
