NLC, TUC compel workers to observe nationwide strike in Ebonyi

The Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, and Trade Union Congress, TUC, Ebonyi State chapter, on Monday enforced workers in the state to observe the nationwide strike declared by the national leadership of the two unions.

It was gathered that, the strike partially paralyzed both business and economic activities in Ebonyi State.

The state Chairman of NLC, Prof. Ogugua Egwu who spoke with newsmen on phone, said his team were on ground enforcing the directive of the national body and that the directive of NLC has so far recorded over 90 percent compliance in the State.

“The level of compliance is beyond 90 percent. Our team is going round monitoring the compliance level.

“The Court is not functioning. The State Secretariat is not functioning. Some banks are opened while some are closed. I have sent my team to go and picket them.

“The workers in the government house might be working but not at the Secretariat. Those in government house are afraid. It is natural. Let them not be sacked. At Centenary city nobody is there.”

Meanwhile, a Staff of one of the new generation banks who didn’t want her name in print, said: “We are working but partially.”

The Nations News Nigeria reports that Schools are in season, Markets are opened, even hospitals.
