NIHTE Elects Mudasiru Chairman, Sets Agenda for Safer, Smarter Highways

The Nigerian Institution of Highway and Transportation Engineers (NIHTE), has elected Bola Mudasiru as its National Chairman 

The Nations News reports that Mudasiru was elected at a time where there is much need to revamp Nigeria’s highway and transportation sector.

Mudasiru was elected on September 12, 2026, during the institution’s Conference and Annual General Meeting (AGM), held at the Nigerian Society of Engineers Auditorium, Akoka, Lagos.

His emergence comes against the backdrop of concerns over infrastructure deficits, rapid urbanization, road safety, climate change, infrastructure maintenance and the growing need to deploy modern technology in Nigeria’s transportation system.

A COREN-registered civil engineer and licensed professional of the World Council of Civil Engineers (WCCE), Mudasiru has over 20 years of professional experience in the delivery of major road, bridge, civil and steel-structure projects.

His expertise covers construction management, project controls, cost estimation, regulatory compliance and strategic leadership, with experience cutting across both local and international engineering environments.

Before his election, the new NIHTE chairman held senior positions with P.W. Nigeria Limited, Mitcherutti Contractors, Palton Morgan Holdings, SCOA Nigeria Plc, Aquagrowth Nigeria Limited and Krisbol ESL.

Mudasiru is a Fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (FNSE), Nigerian Institution of Civil Engineers (FNICE), Nigerian Institution of Highway and Transportation Engineers (FNIHTE) and the Institute of Highway Engineers, London (FIHE).

He is also a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers (M.ASCE), International Association of Safety Professionals (M.IASP) and the Project Management Institute (MPMI).

Beyond NIHTE, Mudasiru is Vice President-Elect (Anglophone) of the West African Federation of Engineering Organisations (WAFEO). He also serves on the NSE Board of Fellows and its International Relations Committee.

He represents Nigeria on the Executive Board–External Relations Committee of the Federation of African Engineering Organisations (FAEO) and contributes to the World Federation of Engineering Organizations (WFEO) Working Group on Engineering and Climate Change.

His new role places him at the centre of professional conversations on highway development, transportation planning, road safety, infrastructure maintenance and climate-resilient transportation systems.

Mudasiru has also served as a judge of the Nigerian Engineering Olympiad and delivered technical papers at national and international platforms.

His professional recognitions include the 2024 Presidential Merit Award of the Nigerian Society of Engineers and the 2025 CED Magazine Professional Man of the Year Award.

His election has drawn attention to the role of professional engineering bodies in shaping standards and policies for Nigeria’s transportation infrastructure, particularly as the country grapples with the demands of urban growth, road safety and sustainable infrastructure development.
