Ngbo Clan condemns intake of illicit drugs, masquerading, illegal schools in Ebonyi

Ngboejeogu clan has condemned in totality the intake of illicit drugs by youths, and the proliferation of illegal schools in various communities in Ohaukwu local government area of Ebonyi State.

The Clan further banned masquerades and masquerading activities from operating in the major roads and markets in Ohaukwu LGA and should not constitute any form of harm, both physically, metaphysically or otherwise. 

Ngbo nation made this known in a communique signed by it’s President General, Emmanuel Etu Odo and other leaders, shortly after the 2025 Ngbo Day Celebration held at Amoffia Town Hall and made available to The Nations News.

It was gathered that the celebration started with a novelty match between Ngboejeogu Medical Doctors and their Lawyers counterpart at Central School Ngbo, General Clean up exercise at Okwo Ngbo Market.

Other events include; Disbursement of bursary award to over two hundred University and Polytechnics students by, Emma Eze Foundation, and a special Thanksgiving Church Service at Anglican Church, Ukpeshi, Umuogudu Oshia Ngbo.

At the Citizens Linkage where Ngbo people gathered for annual appraisal of the socio-political, cultural and economic activities in the land, resolutions were made to strengthen the growth and development in Ngbo and guarantee safety of lives and property. 

The Nations News reports that the resolutions adopted by the clan includes; “In order to re-examine our past, familiarize with our present and intentionally chart a course for the brighter future of Ngbo and to build a greater Ngbo Nation, the following resolutions were reached and hence, this communiqué generated:

“That some aspects of the 2023 Ngboejeogu General Assembly resolutions were reviewed and evaluated and the following key points were highlighted and reiterated: That at no time did the Ngbo Leaders Council ever ban masquerade and masquerading in Ngbo Land.

“However, the Ngbo Leaders Council directed that the activities of masquerades, masquerading, and masquerade makers be strictly restricted to their playgrounds. Hence, masquerades and masquerading are strictly prohibited along Ngbo Major Roads, Markets and other public places. 

“That masquerades and masquerading activities must not in any way constitute any form of harm, both physically, metaphysically or otherwise. This directive was also legislated by the Ohaukwu Local Government Legislative Assembly.

“That other points in the 2023 communique/ resolutions such as ban on sell of illicit drugs and other dangerous substances in Ngbo land; ban on sell of charms at Okwo market and activities of voodoo and witch doctor practitioners, multiple taxations are being vigorously addressed and efforts in this direction are to be sustained. 

“That new matters were seriously addressed and the following resolutions reached:That the Ngbo Nation is one united, indivisible and indissoluble entity whose organic unity must ever be sustained, preserved, protected, defended, promoted and bequeathed across generation in perpetuity.

“That the Ngbo culture is good and must be sustained but its sustenance must be weaved around the present modern social realities. Our language, food, lifestyle, etc are all aspects of our culture that must be sustained and promoted.

“However, any aspect of our culture that is inimical to Ngbo existence or to that of any citizen of Ngbo must immediately be redefined or outrightly abolished. 

“That our alternative dispute resolution mechanisms in Ngbo land be upheld but in doing so, such should be in consonance with extant laws of Nigeria while expert legal advice should always be sought where necessary.

“That inheritance of landed property by female offspring in Ngbo Land should be considered on the basis of individual and communal ownership. Where an individual owns a private landed property and dies leaving behind only female offspring(s), such female offspring should outrightly inherit their father’s property.

“However, when such property is a communal one, the Ngbo native law should apply. 

That the Ngbo nation totally condemn female genital mutilation and hereby formally declare such practice prohibited in Ngbo land.

“That Ngboejeogu hereby reiterates her firm stance on the leadership of major markets in Ngbo especially Okwo being democratically constituted, thereby rejecting the idea of government setting up Caretaker Committees in Ngbo markets”

“That Ngboejeogu being a nation that loves quality education and has maximally benefited from same hereby firmly resolve to promote only quality and holistic education in and around Ngbo land.

“Ngbo therefore rejects the idea of mushroom schools, low quality education and examination malpractice and maintains her stand on supporting government to eradicate such in Ngbo land” it stated.
