Gov Bago  shut down IBBUL   over security breaches, loss of lives

Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago has ordered the immediate closure of the state owned Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, IBBUL  Lapai  following unabated security breaches and loss of lives. 

Governor Bago who has been out of the State for days now expresses deep concern over the  security breaches recorded in the Community and the off campus lodges of students. 

 “It is with great concern that the Governor of Niger State, Farmer Mohammed Umaru Bago has directed with immediate effect closure of Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University (IBBU), Lapai, Niger State”

The statement issued by Alhaji Abubakar Usman, Secretary to the Government of Niger State (SSG) revealed that this decision comes in light of recent security breaches and unfortunate loss of lives within the University community.

According to the SSG,  “the safety and security of all citizens, especially Students, remain a top priority for the Government.

” We are deeply saddened by the recent incidents and the Government is taking proactive measures to address the situation swiftly”.

Alhaji Usman urged the University community to remain vigilant, calm, and cooperate with the authorities during this period of closure, adding that the Government is working diligently to restore order, ensure the safety of all citizens and maintain peace within the University community and the State as a whole.

He assures the public that every effort is being made to investigate the security breaches and bring perpetrators to justice.

The SSG reiterated that the Government is resolute in its commitment to upholding law and order, as well as protecting the lives and property of all residents in the State.

He enjoined everyone to remain calm and stay tuned for further updates as Government work towards the swift resolution of these challenges.

It would be recalled that, a 300 only Child of his parents, Identified by Police as Jafar who returned to the instruction after the breaks the previous night was killed by yet to be unidentified persons, police claimed were suspected robbers on 22nd of June, 2025 at one of the off campus lodges.
