The Ebonyi State government led by governor Francis Nwifuru has announced the payment of over 1.6 billion naira compensation to property owners at the popular Venco Junction in the state capital, Abakaliki.
The Nations News Nigeria reports that over 80 properties have been destroyed, displacing hundreds of residents as a part of the ongoing construction of a mega flyover, tunnel, and dual lanes in the area.

The Commissioner for Lands and Survey, Matthew Nwaobashi made this known while speaking with newsmen, shortly after a town hall meeting at the Meritona hotel, Abakaliki.
“The state government, led by Rt. Hon. Francis Nwifuru, has provided adequate compensation to many landlords in areas where we have acquired property. This is the mandate of my ministry.
“For example, at the site of the new state university of ITC, around 15 homes were displaced, and we have compensated those affected. In addition to compensation, we have also resettled them by building houses and new bungalows for them.
“The same applies to the construction of Naval Secondary School at Amachara, where about 20 hectares of land were acquired, affecting around 11 homes. We have compensated these homeowners as well.
“Also, at Onueke, where we are building the University of Aeronautics Engineering and Aerospace, we have acquired land but have not yet paid compensation; however, we have conducted an enumeration of the affected areas.
“The same is true for Ngbo-Agbaja, where we have acquired land for estates. We have enumerated the affected properties but have yet to pay compensation.
“In the case of Venco Junction, as the governor announced today, we have paid approximately 1.68 billion naira in compensation due to the ongoing construction. This demonstrates that we are making significant progress,” he stressed.
