The National Chairman of All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA,  Sly Ezeokenwa Monday has charged APGA members in Onitsha South Local Government area to ensure that Governor Charles Chukwuma soludo gets 50,000 votes in the forthcoming gubernatorial election in the state.

He urged them to restore the lost glory of the party in the area, noting that the party has made a lot of impacts in the state.

He frowned at the poor state of APGA in the area, lamenting that Onitsha South LG has been  relegated to the background to the extent that the two House of Assembly seats were taken over by Labour Party, LP.

Ezeokenwa gave the charge at the Council Secretariat during the Onitsha South Stakeholders/ State Working Committees meeting  held ahead of the forthcoming 8 November 2025 gubernatorial election.

Speaking further, the National Chairman recalled how APGA was built from the scratch during the time of the then, National Chairman, Chekwas Okorie, all that transpired, the tribunal verdict that followed suit and how his late father, Chief Sylvester Ezeokenwa gave evidence at the tribunal, the Peter Obi’s swearing-in in 2006, his impeachment and restoration, adding that the God of Anambra State is the God of APGA.

Buttressing his fact on why Onitsha South should restore the lost glory of APGA in the area, he said “In 2010, Onitsha South came 1st with 10,000 plus votes during Peter Obi’s reelection while Anaocha had 16,000 plus.

“But for people who are statisticians, statistically, because Anaocha has the Governor and the National Chairman then, Onitsha South has no Commissioner, no Special Adviser or House of Assembly Member, then having nothing, but the difference between Onitsha South and Anaocha LG that made Onitsha South 1st position is because it has 200 polling units and won all the polling units.

“But in Anaocha LG, APGA lost about 3-4 polling units, therefore, Onitsha South secured 100 percent votes for APGA”Ezeokenwa clarified.

He maintained that”We would go back to that glory” stating that it would be achieved with conscious effort.

He lauded the Mayor of the area, Emeka Orji for accepting his onerous responding of leading the renewal and reconvening of APGA Onitsha South, even as he thanked the immediate past Caretaker Committee Chairman, Hon.Emeka Asoanya for taking the lead.

He called on the Mayor to take charge, adding that he, Mayor, has an added incentives to ensure that, 100 per cent victory is secured as in 2010, noting that the structures are already on ground.

Lauding governor Chukwuma Soludo for his marvelous achievements in the area he disclosed that, “Firstly in the history of APGA in Onitsha South, no governor has done for the area what Governor Charles Soludo has done.

“Today over 12 roads were started and completed in Onitsha South LG, with a branded new general hospital, first of its kind, then the Mayor supported with fire service and other things.

“Again, Governor Soludo is the first governor to recognize Onitsha South as  independent local government and gave us the position of commissioner and number one  in the party, that is the national chairman,” he further revealed.

He reiterated that there would be continuous meetings to strategize and brainstorm on how the stated goals would be achieved, noting that the voters registration would soon kick off, adding that it is where the process starts.

He also emphasized on the need for voters registration, stating that as far as Ndi Igbo are concerned, he advised everyone to ensure that he and his household are registered and  also stressed on the need for census which according to him is for national planning, knowing the data of people in a particular state, region and what they needed.

He added that in the absence of the other avenues, that census is to know the rightful population of a state through voter registration, advising that it is not right to only go and register and increase the registration to 5 million and after voting, 3,000 voted, saying that it meant padded.

In his words, the APGA National Legal Adviser, Victor Agunze who accompanied the national chairman on the visit said “I was in a way delegated to come and witness the degree of love and support you always share with our national chairman, because the headquarter always takes the time to follow the events virtually in all the 21 LGs and I can tell you that Onitsha South is ranking about the 3rd on the list”.he stated.
