Again, Gunmen Attack Benue Link Bus, shot 3 Passengers

Armed men suspected to be bandits have attacked a commercial bus belonging to Benue State government transport  outfit, popularly known as ‘Benue Links and shot three passengers.

It was gathered that the incidence happened on Saturday night when the  passengers were traveling from  Gboko en route Lagos. 

It was further learnt that the situation occurred few kilometers to Otukpo town within the state as the gunmen intercepted the vehicle before opening fire on the vehicle.

The  Information Officer of Benue Links Nigeria Limited, Johnson Ehi Daniel  confirmed the incident to journalists in Makurdi on Sunday.

He admitted that one of their vehicles was attacked while three victims affected and are already receiving treatment at the Federal University Teaching Hospital, Otukpo.

Daniel disclosed that the General Manager of the company on Sunday visited the injured passengers at the Federal University of Health Sciences Teaching Hospital.

He explained that the attack on one of their vehicles occurred at the Burnt Bricks area of Otukpo at about 7:00pm on Saturday, 10th January, 2026.

“The vehicle, which departed Gboko en route to Otukpo to lodge for the night and continue its journey the following day, was attacked by suspected gunmen along the route.

“The Management of Benue Links Nigeria Limited regrets to confirm an attack on one of its vehicles, PP974, which occurred at the Burnt Bricks area of Otukpo at about 7:00pm on Saturday, 10th January, 2026.

“Thankfully, no life was lost during the incident. However, three passengers sustained gunshot injuries and are currently receiving medical treatment at the Federal University of Health Sciences Teaching Hospital, Otukpo, where they are responding positively to treatment.

He added that the company general manager, Comrade Alexander Aondohemba Fanafa, alongside Business manager,  Edache Joseph has provided both logistical and emotional support to the victims and promised that the company would bear the full cost of their medical treatment.

The manager of the company who later addressed drivers of the company in Otukpo insisted that there is a ban on night journey.

“Following the hospital visit, the General Manager proceeded to the Otukpo Police Station, where he met with the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) and officers of the Nigerian Police Force. He expressed appreciation for their prompt response to distress calls involving the company and encouraged them to continue their efforts in combating criminal activities within the society.

“The General Manager also visited the Otukpo Motor Park, where he addressed drivers of the company on duty. 

He reiterated that the company’s ban on night travel remains in full force, warning that any driver found violating this directive would face appropriate disciplinary action. 

He further advised drivers to always obey traffic regulations, drive responsibly, remain courteous to passengers and stay security-conscious at all times”, Daniel said.
